The oldest part of the Emerson House in Ipswich, Ma, dates to 1680. It is a Historic New England Stewardship property so any alterations had to be approved by HNE. The owners wanted a sympathetic addition, so Rykerson Architecture designed a contextual ell with period finishes, hand planed moldings, plank framed windows, and a new chimney built in the style of the eighteenth century.
